MAYAN BALL GAME

IXCHEL GODDESS

Ixchel, the lunar goddess, known as Ix Chel (rainbow woman), Chak Chel (big rainbow), Sak U' Ixik (Lady White Moon), Ix Chebel Yax (Lady of the First Brush) or Sinal in her invocation of goddess of childbirth whose meaning alludes to the capacity to give birth, is considered one of the most important deities of the Mayan culture, and she was represented depending on the lunar phases, from a young woman holding a rabbit to an old woman weaving on a loom.
She is related to pregnancy and childbirth of women, but also with medicine, water, painting, rainbows, textiles and the fertility of the earth.

WHALE SHARK

THE CHARRO

An art and discipline arising from equestrian activities and livestock traditions. Considered as the representative figure of Mexico and cultural icon, embodying honor, tradition and courage. We are allowed to be spectators to admire his skill in a famous show called “las 9 suertes”. The charro symbolizes family values, honor and respect for his land and traditions, known for his distinctive attire, his typical costumes are divided into faena, media gala, gala and etiqueta, which includes a wide hat, a tight-fitting suit jacket, pants adorned with buttons and riding boots. Accompanied by the reatas, made of lechuguilla and ixtle (maguey fiber). Women also participate in this sport, where they are called “escaramuza”.

MONARCH BUTTERFLY

GRAY WHALE

This amazing species (Eschrichtius robustus) is one of the largest species in the marine world, known for its grayish skin and robust body, can reach lengths of up to 15 m and weigh up to 36 tons. It travels three months from Alaska, where they feed, to reach the Baja California Peninsula and the Gulf of California, where they carry out their reproductive activities from December to April. In 1972, the Government decreed the creation of the first sanctuaries in the San Ignacio and Ojo de Liebre-Guerrero Negro Lagoons in the state of Baja California Sur. Their presence in Mexico highlights the importance of this country as a crucial habitat for the reproduction and care of these impressive marine creatures.
